Final Part Two

Being a Business Marketing major I have been interested in how to effectively reach the target market.  I have chosen to double minor in Advertising and Fashion Merchandising.  Advertising is always something that I have been interested in and I enjoy doing both the creative parts as well as the noncreative parts.

One of the things I like most about my newfound media literacy is the fact that I can use photoshop.  I have always wanted to be able to use photoshop for personal and academic use and with this tool I find my options are endless.  I have already been able to create a whole campaign of ads for my Marketing project!  Also, I feel having an insight into how the program works definitely helps in the fact that I can put it on my resume.  Although I am not going into the creative aspect of advertising, I definitely feel this will open up a door for me, if I decide that is what I would like to do.

Another thing I really enjoyed in the class was learning how to make the magazine cover!  Without ever being exposed to it I never realized how easy it really was!  Well, granted it wasn’t easy but the concept of just adding the different layers of text and adjusting them to make them look as similar to the original as possible amazed me!  I was completely shocked at how realistic mine had looked and I was so proud of it!

A third thing I liked about the class was the fact that Creative Suit was introduced to me as a whole (well most of it).  I know this is a general statement but I really have gotten a lot from this class and now am thinking about exactly which direction I’d like to go in for a career.  I like the fact that you can drag things from one program to the next because they are all from Adobe.  Also, I like that although most of the work we did in class was at a beginner’s level, I feel I have something to at least start some sort of portfolio.  Even though I don’t need a portfolio for my major, I feel a lot better going into the real world with at least something to show my work.  With the tools learned from this class I was able to create more print ads and a whole new product and I am thrilled.  I really wanted to learn how to make a DVD of all of my work in class that day so I am kind of upset noone wanted to.  I would also like to create a website with all of my work on it if at all possible.  I know the work isn’t at the professional level but I feel it displays that I have learned the basics of the Adobe Creative Suite.  Thank you so much it’s been a blast!  Have a great summer!

Ads with more than one meaning

http://www.minoritynurse.com/vitalsigns/images/dec03-5a.jpg

Basically, I’d like to start off by saying that I don’t find anything wrong with ads being printed in more than just English in the United States.  Following along with the telephone menus and the choose a language button at the ATMs, I think it is very commonplace to see Spanish or any other language offered whenever English is as well.  While I don’t have a problem with it, I feel like I lot of people do and don’t want to be bothered with the fact that they have to choose their primary language on a menu as English.  The only thing I have against it is the fact that the ad is going to kind of lose its edge with two separate languages attempting to give out the same message.  I feel that maybe there should be a better way of doing this so that a lot of people aren’t mad.  With this I feel that Americans will be much happier and won’t have to pick English as the language to speak in America.

Tabloids

When thinking of an interesting part of media tabloids definitely come to my mind.  If I was say a famous actress and my every move was watched, I would probably go crazy.  Furthermore, if false information was put into magazines about me on a weekly basis, I would be furious!  I find it amazing that some things that are allowed to be published are based on complete rumors and assumptions!  I understand that the public wants to know everything they can about their favorite celebrity but really how many people would want to find out fake information about these people?  I would like to think that they want to know what is really going on in their lives, and not just what the editors are thinking.  Finally I am surprised that these tabloid magazines even make enough money to keep making them due to the lack of true information.  This absolutely amazes me.

The use of Jingles

With new ways of advertising coming out I have noticed that Jingles are being used less and less in TV and radio commercials.  Some new tactics used in commercials are humor, the shocking approach, and strange ideas that just make the customer remember the product.  As of now the only commercial I can actually think of with a jingle is that one where there are a bunch of girls sitting on the beach and singing the phone number of some cable/internet service.  The guy comes in and kind of raps the information about it and it seems like a big party.  At the end the girls repeatedly sing the phone number to call, and it is extremely obnoxious.  Other than that, jingles have kind of lost their appeal. I wonder what will be the next best way to reach the audiences.

Lately, I have been looking at the consistency of specific campaigns and have noticed that it’s not always about a new approach to continue to reach the audience.  Sometimes, using the same approach and just adding in a different detail each time is what builds the awareness of the brand and gives it status.  One of the companies that sticks out in my mind as to doing just this would definitely be the Absolut print ads that they put out.  With a common motif of the vodka bottle in the center of the page and some sort of phrase starting with Absolut a person will definitely be able to identify with this brand.  This is a smart tactic and probably saves some money in the creativity area.  I guess it goes with the saying “if it isn’t broken don’t fix it.”
